All electrical contractors are required to be licensed by the City of Ithaca to perform electrical work within the City of Ithaca. Applications for periodic licensing examinations can be obtained in the Building Department.
Out-of-town electricians who are not licensed by the City of Ithaca and are licensed by another municipality will require a special reciprocal license to perform any work within the City of Ithaca. Each electrical contract undertaken by such a person or company will require a separate reciprocal license renewal.
Contractor licensing is required for the installation and maintenance of security
and/or fire alarm systems. Contractors are required to hold a current
New York State Security or Fire Alarm Systems Installer license to perform work
within the City of Ithaca.
All heating and/or ventilation engineer, contractor or installer are required to obtain a certificate of registration to perform work within the City of Ithaca. Registrations are renewed yearly and applications can be obtained in the Building Department.
