The Department of Public Works will begin their annual street cleaning operations on Monday, April 3, 2017. This work will move throughout the City during the next five weeks. Residents who park on the street should watch for street signs and check on their cars daily through the first week of May.
Streets will be posted as "No Parking Zones" 24-hours in advance of the cleaning. All vehicles remaining on the street after 7:00 a.m. will be ticketed and towed at the owner's expense. The standard parking ticket can range from $15 to $30. The towing rate in the City of Ithaca is $100 plus sales tax. Vehicle storage fees are $25 per day. Vehicles that require additional wrecker services in order to be safely moved may be charged an additional $25.
If you will be out of town during this time, please make other parking arrangements for your vehicle. People in need of long term parking arrangements can call the City Chamberlain's Office at (607) 274-6580 to inquire about the availability of long-term parking permits in the parking garages.
Please help us to help you avoid the costs and inconvenience associated with towing vehicles by adhering to the street cleaning schedule posted below. Towing vehicles is something we hate to do because it slows down our operations and creates a significant hardship for the vehicle owners. Removing dirt and debris annually from the streets is necessary to prevent the storm sewers from backing up and creating water hazards on the street and on private property.
Please note: street cleaning is weather dependent and may be re-scheduled in case of inclement weather.
Questions or concerns about this program can be forwarded to the Streets and Facilities Office at (607) 272-1718.
