Mayor Myrick announced today that the City will be temporarily suspending enforcement of its Odd/Even parking regulation until further notice. This city-wide regulation is in effect between November 1st and April 1st and prohibits parking between 2:00 AM – 6:00 AM on the odd-numbered side of the street on odd-numbered days and on the even-numbered side of the street on even-numbered days.
During the 2017-18 winter season, the City will be piloting an initiative to suspend enforcement of the odd/even parking rule when it is not needed for snow removal or street cleaning purposes. As of November 1, enforcement of the rule is suspended. We will be using our new Swift911™ notification system to alert people when the odd/even rule is being enforced and when not.
Please subscribe to receive these notices by registering on the City’s website, look for the Swift 911 icon on the homepage, or by going to mp.swiftreach.com on your mobile device (or text “Swift911” to 99538). You can either install the mobile app or enter your contact information in your web browser. You may also register by contacting the Tompkins County Department of Emergency Response at (607) 266-2630 or email at Swift911@tompkins-co.org.
Once you are registered in the system, you can customize your contact information and subscribe to receive Odd/Even Parking notifications and other types of notifications as well.
Notices that the odd/even parking regulation is being enforced will be sent out through this system. Please familiarize yourself with the parking rule to avoid unnecessary tickets. In simple terms: when you park your vehicle for the night on November 1st, park on the side of the street where the house numbers are odd as you should not be parked on the even side of the street between 2:00 AM – 6:00 AM on November 2nd. When you park for the night on November 2nd, park on the side of the street where the house numbers are even, so you will not be parked on the odd side of the street between 2:00 AM - 6:00AM on November 3rd.
Please Note: October, December, January, and March have 31 days. On the 31st day of those months, when you park your vehicle for the night, park on the side of the street where the house numbers are EVEN so you will not be parked on the odd numbered side of the street between 2:00 AM – 6:00 AM on the 1st.
If your street only has parking on one side of the street, you may have to find parking on a nearby street on the alternate days. Information regarding streets that are exempt from the odd/even parking can be found here.
Violators of this parking regulation will be ticketed, so please contact the City Chamberlain’s Office (607) 274-6580 if you have questions or need additional information.
