Upcoming Construction: 900- 1010 East State Street Gas Main Replacement – Notice 2
PROJECT NAME: 900- 1010 East State Street Gas Main Replacement – Full Street Closure
PROJECT LOCATION: 900-1010 East State Street & Cornell Walk
PROJECT START DATE: Monday, May 7, 2018
PROJECT DESCRIPTION: On behalf of NYSEG, the DDS Companies will install a new 6” gas main and service connections from the intersection of Mitchell Street & East State Street to 1010 East State Street, continuing up to 4 Cornell Walk.
REASON FOR WORK: “This NYSEG gas main replacement is part of a NYS Public Service Commission mandated program to replace aging infrastructure. This replaced infrastructure includes piping that is considered to have future potential for leakage and is classified as leak-prone. This PSC mandated replacement program provides NYSEG a capital investment mechanism that supports public safety. The new main will add and provide more consistent operating pressure and increased reliability to the customers we serve in the immediate areas. The new gas main will have an expected life of 20 years or more.”
LOCAL IMPACTS: Starting Monday May 14, 2018, East State Street will be closed to through traffic in both directions between Mitchell Street and Bridge Street, including nights and weekends, for the duration of the work. The intersection of Giles Street and Cornell Street will remain open. Access to driveways will be maintained inside the work zone, but residents may experience some delays getting in and out of the work area. During active work, flaggers and construction personnel will assist residents in the work area to access driveways. Permanent restoration work will occur at the end of the project.
Additionally, the sidewalk on the northeast side of the intersection of East State Street and Mitchell Street will also be closed, as will the sidewalk on the north side of East State Street for approximately 100 feet to the east. The City will work with DDS to have the sidewalk restored as soon as the gas work is completed.
DETOURS IN PLACE: Starting Monday May 14, Inbound (westbound) traffic will be detoured from East State St. (Rt 79) to Pine Tree Rd to Route 366 and back into the City to the intersection of East State St and Mitchell Street.
Outbound (eastbound) traffic will be detoured from East State St. (Rt 79) to Route 366 to Pine Tree Rd. to the intersection of Pine Tree Road and Route 79.
The detour will be posted along the route and all heavy vehicles and trucks should use the detour. There are no alternate routes that are suitable for heavy vehicles and trucks. Residents and visitors to addresses on East State Street between Mitchell Street and Pine Tree Road will have necessary access aside from possible brief exceptions at locations where active work is underway. Some short-term sidewalk closures adjacent to active work are expected.
PARKING RESTRICTIONS: No change
