Construction Update- East State/ MLK Jr. Street Retaining Wall- Geotechnical Work

CONSTRUCTION UPDATE: East State/MLK Jr. Street Retaining Wall – Geotechnical Work

Project Location: 400 block of East State/MLK Jr. Street

Project Start DateMonday, November 12, 2018

Project Description: A drilling subcontractor will be conducting additional soil & rock borings in sidewalks for a large retaining wall project in the 400 block of East State/MLK Jr. Street (just uphill from the History Center).

Local Impacts: The contractor will close the sidewalk on one side of the street while drilling. A pedestrian detour will be signed from the intersections at Stewart Avenue and Green/Seneca Way (the Tuning Fork). Once the work in complete on one side of the street, the contractor will move to the opposite side of the street, flipping the sidewalk detour and closing the other sidewalk. One sidewalk will be open at all times. This work is expected to take 3 to 4 business days. The uphill bike lane and some parking spaces may be impacted depending on how the drill rig is set up. The travel lanes should not be impacted.

Detours in Place: A sidewalk detour will be posted, crossing pedestrians at Stewart Avenue and at the Tuning Fork (intersection with Green & Seneca Way). The sidewalk itself will only be closed at the work site, so access to adjacent properties will be maintained; however, people will not be able to walk the length of the sidewalk on one side of the street.

The uphill bike lane will be closed during work hours. People driving up the hill should be able aware of people on bikes merging and sharing the lane.

Parking Restrictions: Likely, the first three parking spaces heading up the hill will be taken out of service for this work.

Scheduled Completion Date: Friday, November 16, 2018

PLEASE NOTE: Construction, by nature, is subject to constant change, inclement weather, and unexpected findings.
