City of Ithaca Building Division Modifies Housing Inspections in Response to COVID-19

In order to minimize the spread of the COVID-19 virus and to protect the public, tenants, landlords and staff; the City of Ithaca Building Division rental housing inspections will be done only if the entire building is vacant. All windows and doors, including the doors to each individual apartment, must be open so that the building has been ventilated for a minimum of 4 hours. If the apartment is under lease, permission will be required from the tenant to enter the apartment. The person escorting the housing inspector through the building will be required to do the testing/operation/necessary moving of items, and the opening of doors, cabinets, electrical boxes, etc. Inspectors will not come into direct contact with any surfaces.

The Building Division appreciates everyone’s understanding and cooperation during this difficult time. If you need additional information or would like to make an appointment, please call the City of Ithaca Building Division at 607-274-6509.
