Construction Update- Hector Street Complete Streets Project

Construction Update- Hector Street Complete Streets Project

Project Start Date: Project began Monday, March 16, 2020

Beginning Wednesday, April 1st, Hector Street will be closed to thru traffic

Project Description & Goal:
New and replacement sidewalks will be constructed along Hector St Street between Floral Avenue and 500 feet west of Warren Place.  In addition to the sidewalks, the City of Ithaca’s contractor, Bothar Construction, will be repairing or installing associated retaining walls, curbing, and drainage improvements.  City crews will conduct concurrent construction improvements to the water main and stormwater infrastructure in the corridor.
Please see the city’s Current City Projects page for detailed maps of scheduled work & detours:

Local Impacts:
Beginning April 1st, Hector Street will be closed to thru traffic. A detour will be posted using Cliff Street (Rt 96), Hayts Road, and Halseyville Road. Vehicular access within the road closure will be provided for people who live along Hector Street and the neighborhood off North Taylor Place, and for emergency responders. People walking or biking through the closure should use caution and obey directions from construction crews. People driving should use the detour or alternative routes and should expect additional travel times, especially in getting through the West End. The City encourages commuters to flex travel times, ride-share and take public transport whenever possible.

Scheduled Completion Date: October 1, 2020

Please Note:  Construction, by nature, is subject to constant change, inclement weather, and unexpected findings.
