Trash is picked up at city residences every week. Recycling is picked up every other week on the same day as trash. Collection of yard waste occurs within the city between April 1 and November 30, or until snow falls, on the weeks opposite of recycling collection. Yard waste collection days are the same days as trash collection; however, yard waste is collected later in the day. Call the Streets and Facilities Division at 607-272-1718 to find out when your trash is collected or use our resident services search tool.
Currently yard waste tags are available at City Hall, Agway, all GreenStar locations, P&C Fresh (Pine Tree Road), Cornell Campus Store, the Dandy Mini Mart on West Buffalo Street, Tops, and Wegmans. Yard waste tags are $9 for a sheet of 6.
Effective January 1, 2019, the City of Ithaca will offer only one type of trash tag for waste disposal. The tag will be valid for large trash cans and/or bags weighing up to 35 pounds. The cost of the large tag (color yellow) will be $4.50 each, sold in a sheet of 6 for $27.00. Trash tags are available at the following locations:
All current tag sales are FINAL. Trash tags and yard waste tags both expire at the effective date of a change in the purchase price. We will offer exchanges or refunds on expired tags for up to 90 days after the expiration date. During that time, exchanges and refunds are only available in person at the Chamberlain's Office.
