Regular meetings are held on the first Tuesday of each month at 6:00 p.m. in Common Council Chambers, 3rd Floor, City Hall, 108 E. Green Street, Ithaca, NY 14850.

Board of Zoning Appeals (BZA) meetings may be held using videoconferencing technology. More information, including the written procedures governing the use of videoconferencing technology, is available on our Boards and Committees page. The live stream of the meeting and video recordings of prior meetings are available on the City’s YouTube channel.

Overview & Duties


The Board of Zoning Appeals reviews orders, requirements, decisions, interpretations and/or determinations made by the administrative official charged with the enforcement of ordinances or local laws adopted by Common Council. The concurring vote of a majority of the members of the Board of Appeals is necessary to reverse any order, requirement, decision or determination of any such administrative official, or to grant a use variance or area variance. Such appeal may be taken by any person aggrieved, or by an officer, department, board or bureau of the City.
