Construction Update: East State Street Retaining Wall
PROJECT LOCATION: 400 block of East State Street, south side
PROJECT START DATE: August 2020
PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Construct a new retaining wall just south of the existing retaining wall along the south side of East State/MLK Jr. Street (Rt 79).
LOCAL IMPACTS: Most of the construction work will be performed from the south side of the new wall, which is the parking lot of the Gateway Commons property. However, due to some safety concerns related to the existing wall, the contractor will be immediately closing the sidewalk and bike lane on the south side of the street. Eastbound vehicular traffic will be maintained. People riding bicycles will need to merge into a shared lane with vehicular traffic. The sidewalk on the south side of the street will be closed and detoured to the north side of the street.
DETOURS IN PLACE: The sidewalk on the south side will be detoured to the north side of the street.
PARKING RESTRICTIONS: Approximately five parking spaces will be removed from access at the east end of the project (the first five or so parking spaces heading up the hill).
SCHEDULED COMPLETION DATE: August 2021
PLEASE NOTE: Construction, by nature, is subject to constant change, inclement weather, and unexpected findings.
