City of Ithaca Mayor Svante Myrick announced that he has appointed the City Redistricting Working Group. The members of the group are Henrik N. Dullea, Chair; Seph Murtagh; Chris Proulx; Jared Pittman; and Katie Sims. The Redistricting Working Group is made up of one member from each ward, and they are responsible for drawing proposed lines for the city wards that will be used in local elections. The Working Group will present its recommendations to the Common Council for final approval.
The first meeting of the mayor-appointed working group convened in December. The City Attorney, Ari Lavine, represented the mayor and laid out important information concerning formation, charge, timetable, and staff support. The working group members agreed that the city will work closely with the County Redistricting Commission, through sharing data and holding joint meetings to solicit public input and reactions. The first meeting of the joint group will be on Tuesday, January 25th , 5:30 p.m., and the public is invited to provide input regarding legislative districts for the county and ward boundaries for the city.
The City of Ithaca has set up an email firstname.lastname@example.org for questions and comments from the public.
